Welcome to our online community! We'll be using this website to communicate among parents, to encourage students to interact and discuss with each other, and to provide information from the class in case a student is absent.
I thought that I would write a little blurb about myself so that as parents and students you would have a better idea of where I'm coming from as a teacher. I grew up in a small town in South West Florida and lived there for 18 wonderful years. My mom has worked in education my entire life, ranging from being a teacher in middle school to being a principal in elementary school. My dad is the manager at a company that sells farm equipment. I have one brother, Matthew, whose friendship I treasure. Family was always very important to me growing up, and living in a small, tightly-knit community has formed me into who I am today. After graduating from high school, I went on to college at the University of Central Florida where I majored in Elementary Education and minored in Hospitality Management. I loved college so much that I continued on and obtained my master's degree in Education. :)
A few personal things that are important to me:
I love the Lord. He is my life and all that I live for. In no way will I ever push my beliefs on my students, but God has blessed me in so many ways, and I live to proclaim His glory.
I majored in education because I believe in this generation. They have so much to offer and I want to be part of helping them develop to their full potentials. I absolutely love working with children and firmly believe that they often teach me so much more than I could ever teach them.
Music is a passion of mine, and I love using it in the classroom. One of my goals as a teacher is to help my students discover what they are passionate about and develop the skills necessary to go after their dreams.
I believe that every student can (and wants to) learn, but also understand that each child is different. I'll do my best to meet each student where they are, set reasonable and challenging goals for them, and assist them in meeting those goals.
Parental participation is very important to me. If students do not have parents who are actively involved in encouraging them in their studies and challenging them to do more, it makes it that much harder for the student to be motivated.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. My email is brittany.n.baker@knights.ucf.edu and is the best way to contact me. I'm so excited for this year, and hope that you are too!
